We are very sad to announce that our dear friend, colleague, teacher and inspiration Francisco Varatojo passed on whilst diving on Thursday 6th of July. Chico, as he was known to his friends, initiated Macrobiotics International through a macrobiotic teachers meeting in Lisbon as part of Michio Kushi’s 80th birthday celebrations in 2006. He was a huge help in organising, running and often hosting the annual meetings that followed. Much more, he was a great friend, huge support and inspiration to his fellow teachers and always ready to reach out when someone was going through difficult times.
Francisco and his wife Geninha built up one of the world’s most successful macrobiotic educational centres in Lisbon. Together they made an incredible team inspiring people to improve their health and lives. Chico wrote wonderful books on macrobiotics, taught around the world and had a great ability to pull the macrobiotic teaching community together.
He was a committed family man, helping to raise four wonderful children with Geninha. He loved music, travel, aikido, running and diving. We will miss his enthusiasm, smiling face, big hugs and warmth. God bless you dearest Chico.
Chico, you caught us by surprise, with all the intensity with which you have always lived! Your strength, your inspiration, will always continue with us. Thank you for everything you leave us.
